On Saturday 3rd December 2005 I went to THE CENTAUR in Cheltenham to see one of the greatest and long lasting bands of the late 60's and 70's.
The band in question is of course STATUS QUO, however before we could "Roll Over, Lay Down" we saw the support act which was called THE CASBAH CLUB. The line-up for this band was SIMON TOWNSHEND (son of THE WHO's PETE TOWNSHEND), MARK BRZEZICKI (from BIG COUNTRY), and BRUCE FOXTON (from THE JAM). I thought this band was o.k. and I especially liked the track that incorporated the bass line from The Jam's START and the Guitar Riff from THROUGH A BIG COUNTRY.
The line-up for THE CASBAH CLUB is as follows:-
After a break of about 15 minutes the backdrop canvas that the previous band had played in front of came down as we heard the opening bars of PICTURES OF MATCHSTICK MEN before they launched into CAROLINE. Amongst the other tracks performed were ROLL OVER LAY DOWN, AGAIN AND AGAIN, WHAT YOU'RE PROPOSING, WHATEVER YOU WANT, a fantastic all lead guitar version of GERDUNDULA, FORTY-FIVE HUNDRED TIMES, plus of course ROCKIN' ALL OVER THE WORLD. As well as great music the stage set up and lighting were also incredible.
The current line-up for STATUS QUO is as follows:-
The concert ended with ROCK 'N' ROLL MUSIC (which made me think of John Lennon), and BYE BYE JOHNNY, which is something I intend to do ie. BUY some more STATUS QUO.
